Convincing win against Hampton Rovers, now for the next

12-May-2016

Fitzroys senior side scored its first win of the season on Saturday, convincingly beating Hampton Rovers at Boss James Reserve, 18.7.115 to 8.11.59.

Aiden Lambert, another of the young brigade who have stepped up from Fitzroys 2015 under 19 team, showed plenty of class and promise, setting up some lovely goals and was judged best on ground by the coaches.

Up at full forward a very welcome addition to the side was Will Pickering, who gave the team and excellent target and an equally great start in the first quarter, kicking three of the six first quarter goals to set things up for a strong performance. Co-captain Daniel Bisetto continued his strong form and also kicked four goals for the day.

Having recovered quickly from an early-season injury, Rory Angiolella was soon in the wars again in his first game back. The co-captain knows no other way than to put his head over the ball, but things came badly unstuck and he had to depart with half a tooth left somewhere on the Boss James Reserve.

Lucky for Rory, Dr Phil Hill, Fitzroy fan, former University Red and one of Melbournes leading dentists, was on hand to assist and took Rory straight away back to his clinic for an anaesthetic and some emergency dental work.

Not only did Phil spend half the game working but he also wrote a story for The Footy Almanac about the days adventure and you can read it here.

It certainly wasnt a four—quarter performance from the Roy Boys, but it was a very convincing win to make their way off the bottom of the ladder and the team will be looking forward to the opportunity to do it again this weekend, when they play Old Brighton at Brunswick Street Oval.

Bisetto makes Big V squad

Sitting fifth on the Premier B goal kicking ladder and marking everything in sight, Daniel Bisetto has been rewarded with strong early-season form with selection it the initial Big V senior representative squad.

The selected team will take on South Australia over the June long weekend.

Only 11 players from Premier B made the squad, so it is some achievement to be selected. Congratulations Daniel.
