In her first game taking the reins at the helm of the Roy Ressie Girls, super boot Liz Olney transformed into super coach with the ease and the grace she’s been known for at Fitzroy for over a decade.

“Accountability was at the forefront of everything today,” Liz said. “The girls took in everything I suggested, and treated our fans to a masterclass, posting an amazing score for women’s footy.”

Amazing it was, besting the second-on-the-ladder Old Xaverians and delighting the Roys supporters with a stunning 120-1 drumming.

“Importantly, we proved the adage that having fun equals great footy,” says Liz. “Similar to the Old Geelong game, the vibes were high and the voice was up.”

In a game where she says she could have handed out 21 BOG awards, Liz gave special mention to players like Katie Baker, Hannah Knocker and Bella Clarke who in her opinion played their best games so far for the Roys. 

The Seniors kept the momentum going, posting another great win orchestrated by up-and-coming leaders in Sunday Brisbane and Eliza James. “It was great to see us hit the scoreboard consistently throughout the game, Senior Coach Nathan Jumeau said, “with at least two goals per quarter and then taking total control in last. 

Captain Steph Pitt, Claudia Hetherington and Jaime Nelson contributed to an all-team performance against Old Xavs

 “Down back Maddie DeBont, Liv Brilliant and Elyse Campbell are growing each week, with our captain Steph Pitt in the middle and Tess Young on the wing posting very consistent efforts. 

“Up forward Esther Boles was impressive, with Gina Bennett running through the centre to slot two goals of her own as well.” 

All in all, at the half way mark of the season it’s clear the Roy Girls are sure to cement their place stake in the final four and, dare we hope, go all the way at the end. 

Next week, it’s back on the bus for the trek down south to face Beaumaris at Banksia Reserve. Can’t wait to see you ply your trade away from home Roy Girls!
